Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were honored with trophies for Best Leading Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, for their outstanding portrayals of two maids in last summer’s blockbuster, The Help, at Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
For the dynamic duo there are great possibilities going into the Academy Awards, which takes place next month. As history has shown, the winners of the SAG Awards are usually an indicator of who will take home an Oscar. It is with great expectation that the two who are so deserving may take home another award.
Octavia Spencer has already been awarded a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award. Although Viola Davis did not take home a Golden Globe, I foresee an Oscar in her future. During their acceptance speeches, the actors paid homage to the women who came before them and also encouraged everyone to “Dream BIG and Dream Fierce.”
