In a world that puts sooooo many limits on our children, it is evident that they are still able to rise above barriers and excel. If they are not consistently told that they are capable of excelling, many times they will not believe they are capable because the reality is that few African American or Blacks are recognized for their great contributions to society. Do not allow your children to go through life without having faith in themselves. As parents, brothers, sisters, neighbors, etc, it is our responsibility to instill in them great expectations and possibilities. If you are not aware of resources in your community to help your child or any child for that matter, SEARCH! These children are more than the negative images that society has deemed them to be. Many times children find it easier to succeed at not trying rather than try and possibly fail but learn. In this situation, failing is the result regardless. There is not a WIN in this approach. Failing is only permanent if we allow it to be. Failing is a valuable lesson that has the potential to result in success. When our children fail, we fail! Share this with your children and everyone you know with children.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it’s half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me. ~ Althea Gibson
I can accept failure, but I can’t accept not trying. ~ Michael Jordan
I didn’t have anybody, really, no foundation in life, so I had to make my own way. Always, from the start. I had to go out in the world and become strong, to discover my mission in life. ~ Tina Turner

For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
